Danny Black’s 34 year career in cranes started following graduation from the University of Queensland, with a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree, when he joined Franna Cranes as a Design Engineer in 1989. By 1991, he was in charge of the early design team and leading a series of successful new Pick and Carry crane releases. When Terex Corporation purchased Franna in 1999, Danny continued to hold responsibilities as Engineering Manager. He was appointed to his current position as General Manager for Terex Cranes Australia in 2009.
Danny began his involvement with CICA in 2000, when he was appointed as the CICA representative on the Australian Standards ME005 (Cranes) committee. He has actively served on the CICA Board since 2005 and was appointed CICA Vice President from 2009-2013.
In 2012 Danny was awarded the CICA Con Popov Memorial Award, in recognition of his engineering achievements and contributions to the Australian crane industry.
He served as CICA President from 2014-2018 and was awarded the inaugural CICA Legend Award in 2022, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the Australian crane industry.
